Koda Kumi

Koda Kumi (Kumiko Koda), born November 13, 1982 is one of Japan's most well-known Japanese female stars. She started her career in late 2000 with the release of her debut single Take Back. The single didn't reach high on the Oricon charts, only accelerating to #59, but that didn't stop Kumi from releasing more music. She released more singles like Trust Your Love which reached #18 on the Oricon charts, a considerable amount higher than her last single, and later released her debut album Affection which reached to #12 on the Oricon charts and sold over 90,000 copies. Sure, her numbers weren't set as high as most famous artists, but it was only her debut and not many people knew about her.

As soon as her single Real Emotion/1000 Words No Kotoba was released, her popularity grew as both of those were used in the video game Final Fantasy X-2. The single reached to #3 on the charts, the highest any of her singles had reached thus far. She continued her career with the release of her 12 singles and the release of her Best Of album. Her latest album released was Black Cherry and had huge success with reaching #1 on the Oricon charts and selling over 1,000,000 copies.

Koda Kumi is a very promising artist, singing music of all kinds and not just sticking to one genre, and every one of her fans, I'm sure, always looks forward to her new releases. People have been put off by her appearance and her gestures in her latest PV for BUT, but if that's the way she likes to express herself, I respect that. Keep in mind, she has grown much more mature throughout the years and has controlled herself since when she first debuted with her appearance.
